Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Lineup Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

Labuschagne has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia seek a solution to their top-order woes.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20 internationals from October 29.
