The initial step to verify the location of where the images were from relied on social media reports saying the explosion occurred on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the Russian capital.
We used panoramic mapping services on Google Maps and the Russian search engine Yandex Maps to corroborate the unique yellow hue of a nearby residential complex seen in the video.
Locating other structures, streetlights and the street layout verified where the footage were captured.
We also checked that the video clips were new and that the images had not undergone digital alteration.
